Having always been one to favour lighter bases such as tinted moisturisers in lieu of heavier formulations, I promptly trotted over to my local Boots when I heard through the grapevine that L’Oreal’s Nude Magique Cushion Foundation had been released. I was, however, somewhat (very) annoyed to find that the amount of product housed inside this cushion compact is less than half of that of a conventional foundation; which is typically one fluid ounce.
Aside from said annoyance, I really quite like this product for its emollient, dewy formula that pairs well with my reptile-like cheeks, which most foundations tend to exacerbate. Although the formula is seemingly very moisturising and lovely, dimethicone is listed very early on in the ingredients list; which, dependant upon your preferences and skin type, could rule this foundation a no-go. Personally, I tend to stray from dimethicone-heavy products as although they offer great longevity, dimethicone tends to dry out my skin with frequent usage and I find it to be quite clogging.
The whole cushion concept is something I’m indifferent to; in all honesty, I find it to be slightly gimmicky, and the puff sponge applicator enclosed within the compact? The less said about that, the better. For all of its downfalls, I do actually really like this product as it caters to both days when you want minimal coverage and those times when you want a more medium coverage. Both the packaging and consistency are lightweight and I can say with confidence that although I’m sure I’ll enjoy using this compact in its entirety, I won’t be paying £14.99 for what is essentially 15ml of product.
P.S. Boots and Superdrug both have this on a promotional introductory offer for £9.99, which will be increased to its permanent price of £14.99 on the 8th June.
Do you have any thoughts on this foundation? Let me know! Jess x
This product really intrigues me so I’m definitely going to have to try it at some point! xx

It’s a really nice product overall, although I think the price is ridiculous! Xx
This product’s packaging and concept is so unique and different!! I love the look of it and would be willing to try it. Such a shame about the price though xx

It really is such a lovely product but yes I agree about the price; the price to quantity ratio makes it as expensive as a Charlotte Tilbury or NARS foundation! X
Although I haven’t tried a cushion foundation yet, the cushion concept seems kind of gimmicky to me too – plus all of the cushion foundations I’ve seen, whether high-end or drugstore, are really expensive! That being said, it looks really nice on you!
Completely agree – so gimicky and overpriced! Thank you 🙂
I have to completely agree with you on the packaging. I fricking love the formula, it’s one of the best I’ve seriously ever tried, but I just want it in a bottle/pump form so I can easily get the product out! I’ve never tried the Lumi foundation, but I wonder if perhaps that’s the same formula but in a bottle formula? It sucks that we don’t get as much bang for our buck because of the cushion concept though xx

Such a frustrating product haha! I’ve tried the lumi magique but I think the cushion formula is a lot more moisturising and dewy! Xx
I bought this a couple of weeks ago so that I could have it whilst it was still on the introductory offer. I’ve read very mixed reviews about this, but mainly because it does seem to be a very gimmicky product. I don’t mind the idea of a cushion but I won’t be using the sponge that comes with it when I actually get around to using it (not used it yet because I want to take photos first, but there I’ve not had any time to do it). I hadn’t really thought about the pricing and now I can’t believe it’s as expensive as it is! Unless I truly love it I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing.

I actually tried using the sponge but it just soaked up so much product so it went straight in the bin haha! I’ve worked it out to be as expensive as a Charlotte Tilbury or NARS foundation! Let me know what you think of it x
This foundation looks great on you, however you do have lovely skin and I would probably need a bit more coverage for my redness!
I can’t believe the price for the amount of product. 15ml is crazy for £15 – especially if you’re using it everyday!
Thank you for this review, I think I’ll pass on this one 😦 xx
Thank you! I do actually have quite a bit of redness in my cheeks as I have broken capillaries there! You can really build the coverage up quite considerably so I think it would work for you 🙂 I know, seriously disappointed with the ridiculous price tag, definitely won’t be a repurchase for me. Xx
You are very welcome! 🙂 And I totally agree – I noticed you mentioning in other comments that if you work out the price and quantities you’re paying as much as you would for Charlotte Tilbury or Nars… That’s ridiculous! 😦 xx
I’ve seen a lot of YouTubers reviewing it and immediately regarding it as ‘affordable’ and ‘drugstore’ just because it’s L’Oreal but I don’t think they’ve really realised how bad the value is! X
That’s so true – I think people immediately assume it’s good value because they’ve bought it from Boots or Superdrug but in actual fact it can be just as expensive as products from department stores! 🙂 xx
Yes exactly! I like to do a bit of investigative work before writing reviews 😉 xx
So interesting to read though! 🙂 xx
Glad you think so ☺ xx
This looks so nice on you! I find I need way more coverage but it’s still a good foundation – very expensive for what it is though! I’ll maybe try some different applications of it x
Thank you! You can get a really decent medium coverage out of it so maybe it could work for you 🙂 x
This foundation is amazing but you’re right, the applicator is a no-go, the product finishes very quickly and it is expensive for what you get. Those are also the reasons why I decided not to repurchase it when I finished mine 🙂 great review!
You just summed up my feelings on it entirely haha! Thank you 🙂
