My Autumnal Beauty Picks

Aside from the obligatory hoarding of garish animal print PJs, knitted slipper socks and autumnal candles, Autumn is my favourite season for makeup trends and brand releases! So in celebration of the arrival of the season, I thought I’d pull together a little edit of a few beauty products that are bound to make any Autumn-loving girl heart’s flutter!

When I think of autumnal scents, a host of fragrances come to mind, but the perfume that, to me, oozes sophisticated warmth, richness and that velvet quality that only comes from the craftsmanship of high-end fragrance makers, Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid wins every time. If you haven’t yet, please go and give this a whiff next time you’re in a department store; it’s truly an amazingly unique scent.

Like many, my skin is often prone to dehydration throughout the colder months. And as much as I love a good moisturiser, I know that serums are much more effective at hydrating the skin as their smaller, and more concentrated molecules are able to penetrate further into the skin. I’ve now been trialling the newly reformulated double serum from Clarins for about a week, and I’ve noticed improvement in the hydration of my skin even though I’ve been less liberal with my moisturiser application. I expected nothing less for both the hype and price tag are both high. The serum itself is a dual-phase formulation: two-thirds water soluble serum; one thirds lipidic (basically oil). I don’t know if the two-part dispenser is necessary in the case of this product, but my guess would be it’s been designed that way to preserve the potency of the differing ingredients in both the water and oil solutions.

I’m rather fussy when it comes to body butters and lotions, but I do need to keep on top of hydrating my body; particularly my legs, as they become really dry and snake-esque in the colder months – lovely. I love all of Roger & Gallet’s offerings, but I particularly love the Gingembre Rouge range. This body lotion is so luxuriously buttery, and it leaves a subtle sheen to the skin as it’s infused with micro-pearls. Ginger is one of the quintessential autumn scents for me, which is why I love this range for the autumn and winter months as it has the same fieriness of ginger, but the hint of mandarin gives it a hint of fruitiness.

For the complexion, I think the Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer is the most autumnal-looking product! I use this as both a blush, and to warm my complexion as it’s leaf embossed colouring features mauve, olive, and warm brown hues.

I always think cooler tones pair perfectly with the kinds of colours I tend to gravitate towards in my clothing during autumn, and so I love to use my By Terry Ombre Blackstar in ‘misty rock’ as a wash of a taupe-come-amethyst wash over my lids.

I’m not one for berry tones or anything too much darker than the own natural pigment of my lips, but I love the Burt’s Bee’s nude lipstick in ‘blush basin’ as it has a warm, plummy undertone, but still looks incredibly natural and flattering. As a lip topper, or on its own as I tend to wear it, I adore the Clarins Lip Oil in ‘honey’. It looks dauntingly glittery upon first impression, but once on the lips, the shimmer is so fine and gives the lips a real wet look shine.

Have you tried any of these products, or do you already have and love some of them? 🙂 Jess x
